The terrain is a compact, walkable course, gently sloping at the Bridger/Teton National Forest foothills. The par 3 holes are particularly interesting. Lots of events: Junior Rodeo 10am; Parade on Afton's main Street 5pm; SVSAR Ranch Rodeo 7pm; Fireworks 10pm.

The Star Valley Search and Rescue (SVSAR) Ranch Rodeo will help raise funds for the group. In the past, events at the Ranch Rodeo have been: jackpot roping, stock saddle bronc, and wild cow milking, including team events like hide racing and a buddy barrel pickup.
When interviewed in 2021, by SVI News, the commander of Star Valley Search & Rescue, Corey Hepworth, said it is the main source of funding it does each year. “The money we raise from the rodeo goes towards training and equipment,” Hepworth said. “Updating some outdated equipment and giving our members training.” He says even recently some members went through a ropes class, a swift water class, and boat operators class. This also includes doing a lot of “in-house” training as well. Things that we need,” Hepworth said.
He said the group took over the Ted Linford Memorial Rodeo about 15 years ago. It was a two-day event, but he said it just got a little difficult to spread out the rodeo more than o1ne day. He said it also helps other groups as the High School Cheerleaders will be running concessions. He also said that in the fall, the SVSAR sends out a donation letter and if people are interested, they can also donate that way. Another way is on hunting licenses, ORV forms, and snow machine tags, which have a spot you can donate. “That goes to a state fund that reimburses all the state’s search and rescue units from the cost of the missions and stuff”, Hepworth said.
Hepworth said it is important the public knows that while a lot of SVSAR missions do include going into the back country to help people, that is not all they are called to do. Sometimes they get calls from the Sheriff’s Department to come and help search for a missing child and such. More info on their Facebook page.

Late August, 2024: Intermittent Spring “Disappears”:
If you take Swift Creek Road (2nd Avenue) East from Afton, you'll eventually come to a small parking lot at the end of the road. If you hike about 2/3 of a mile from there, you'll come to a small stream that feeds Swift Creek. Unless you happen to be there between late August and May, in which case the stream may or may not be there at all! The Intermittent Spring, the largest naturally occurring periodic spring in the world, runs for about eighteen minutes at a time, then slows and stops entirely for about the same amount of time, before starting back up again. Visit beginning in late August to see one of Wyoming's—and the world's—natural wonders. Click for a Blog Post on the Intermittent Spring.

Around September 15th, 2024: Hunting Season Begins:
